As new students to University Park begin to make their housing selections, they can select into the Leadership and Service Special Living Option (SLO) located in Pollock Halls. This program is open to all new students, regardless of major or previous experiences and will engage 1st and 2nd year students in an experience that will empower them to create positive change in the world. Students will be enrolled in a special section of CAS 250 – Small Group Communication, and participate in various community service and leadership development activities throughout the year. Centrally located in Beaver Hall (near both Redifer and Pollock Dining Commons), students in the Leadership and Service SLO also enjoy a newly renovated kitchen and small group study rooms in Beaver Hall.
The Leadership and Service SLO will offer students leadership and community building training in order to make Penn State feel smaller while living with fellow students that hold similar values. The SLO will help all students develop the leadership skills needed for positive involvement on campus and make well-thought out choices about their co-curricular experience.
To select into this environment, students need to preference the Leadership and Service SLO on their housing contract. For more information, please visit http://studentaffairs.psu.edu/hub/service/SLO.shtml, email leadership@psu.edu, or call the Office of Student Activities at 814.863.4624.
