Penn State supports its faculty by allowing exploration and teaching through Academic Freedom principles, which also allows them to communicate topics that may be controversial provided it is within their field of study. I would also encourage your daughter to discuss her concerns with her professor if she feels the political discussion is not within the scope of the coursework.
