Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
With our children acclimating to campus in the wake of COVID, it is comforting for parents to know that Penn State Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers a robust variety of wellness and mental health resources to undergraduate and graduate students at University Park and the Commonwealth campuses. These services support a range of students’ mental health challenges and can address any new anxiety or depression brought on by the pandemic's economic and social consequences, changes in classroom instruction, isolation measures, vaccine testing, or mask mandates.
Some of the various modalities being offered this fall semester include individual short-term counseling, couples counseling, group therapy, skills clinic and drop-in support groups covering many pertinent topics. Plus, tele-based services (where permissible) and CAPS Chat (a drop-in virtual consultation) are available on weekdays.
In addition to counseling and support groups, on-demand wellness options are currently available and include Welltrack, You@PSU, the CAPS Virtual Library and a new podcast called Mental Essentials”. Also, Life Hacks Kits can be accessed at any time by students.
As always, a 24 hour crisis phone and text line can be accessed for urgent needs. These numbers, as well as detailed information on the above resources, can all be located at studentaffairs.psu.edu.
