Calling all first, second and even third year students - - the 2022 Family Ambassador application is now open! The Parents Program is searching for enthusiastic, driven, and diverse undergraduate students who enjoy connecting with and helping parents and families of Penn State students.
Specifically, we are looking for students committed to working on a team, seeking event planning experience, and refining their leadership skills. If this describes you, your roommate, or best friend, we encourage everyone to apply here!
Why become a Family Ambassador?
Family Ambassadors (FAMBs, as we call them) also enjoy networking opportunities with parent, student, and university leaders and free meals at events throughout the year. Not only is this opportunity a chance to build their resumé, students can also expect support and friendship throughout their entire term and beyond.
Senior Family Ambassador, Devin McClain, says “Being a Family Ambassador has been a highlight of my Penn State experience. I have forged supportive relationships, helped to plan Parents and Families weekend, learned to communicate with PSU families, and grown valuable leadership qualities.”
What does a Family Ambassador do?
FAMB responsibilities include helping with Move-In Weekend in August, Parents and Families Weekend in the fall, Accepted Student Program (ASP) tabling in the spring, orientation tabling throughout the summer (if available), and office tasks. Throughout all these events, it is expected that students will represent Penn State in a professional manner and maintain a supportive and welcoming attitude. Interested students in academic good standing are encouraged to apply.
What is the Family Ambassador time commitment?
The Family Ambassador term is from January through November 2022. Though we prefer that FAMBs will be in State College throughout the summer to help us with orientation sessions, it is not a requirement. We ask that FAMBs volunteer four hours each month and attend biweekly meetings.
All questions can be directed to parents@psu.edu or 814-863-1313. The Parents Program office is located in 222 Boucke Building where students can stop by to ask their questions in person and meet the staff.
