Plan Ahead: Fall Break, Winter Break, and Residence Hall Closures are Approaching

As the end of the semester approaches, so does fall and winter breaks—and that means residence halls at Penn State University Park will be closing soon. Now is a great time to check in with your student to make sure they’re aware of move-out dates, travel plans, and what they’ll need to do before leaving campus.

A little planning now can help ease stress and ensure a smooth transition into the breaks.

Fall Break:

  • University Housing closes at noon Sunday, November 23. Residence Halls will remain open for the home football game on November 22.
  • University Housing reopens at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 29. Early Arrivals are NOT allowed - students will not have access to buildings before 10 a.m. Saturday, November 29. If you arrive early, you must make alternative accommodations until housing reopens.

Winter Break:

  • Fall 2025 finals conclude Friday, December 19, 2025; spring 2026 classes begin Monday, January 12, 2026—so the period between those dates serves as winter break.
  • University Housing closes for winter break at 4:00 p.m. ET Sunday, December 21.
  • University Housing OPENS for spring semester at 8:00 a.m. ET Saturday, January 10. No early arrivals permitted - students will not be able to arrive prior to Saturday, January 10.

Good Morning! What happens if there are flights cancelled and kids can't get home?
